He played all or part of six seasons in Major League Baseball for the Philadelphia Athletics (1919) and Detroit Tigers (1924-28) primarily as an outfielder. Born in Norcross Georgia Wingo attended Oglethorpe University where he played for the Stormy Petrels-the nickname of the Oglethorpe team.
